'The Confession Killer': Netflix to Detangle the Case of Henry Lee Lucas

The Confession Killer documents the life and crimes of Henry Lee Lucas. Who was a serial killer who said he murdered hundreds of people in the 1980s. Lucas was famously the inspiration for the 1986 film, Henry: Portrait for a Serial Killer, starring Michael Rooker.

Netflix and filmmakers Robert Kenner and Taki Oldham have attempted to tell the confusing story of murder, lies and publicity. The five part documentary will cover the crimes and confessions Lucas gave about various victims.

Lucas was originally sent to prison for murdering three people, which included his mother. It was there he began detailing his claims of killing 600 people around the US. He was thought to be one of the most prolific serial killers of all time. But actually he lied about most of the murders he confessed to. As reporters and investigators began to research Lucas’ accounts they uncovered evidence that contradicted his statements.

The Confession Killer synopsis: “During the early ’80s, Henry Lee Lucas confessed to hundreds of murders. Bringing closure to unsolved cases and grieving families. Even with no direct evidence linking Lucas to the crime scenes, he stunned authorities with his ability to sketch victims’ portraits while citing brutal details of each attack. Yet journalists and attorneys found impossibilities in Lucas’ timeline and DNA testing started to contradict his internationally-reported claims. The five-part docuseries will explore how the man once called America’s most prolific serial killer was really a complex figure entangled with a flawed justice system.”

The latest trailer shows Lucas describing crimes, enjoying media coverage and drinking milk shakes. Many of the cases he confessed to were closed although Lucas later recanted many of his confessions. To this day it remains unclear how many people he actually murdered.

So clear your schedule and get ready to dive into the life and lies of Henry Lee Lucas. The five part documentary series, The Confession Killer will begin streaming on Netflix, December 6th. We know it’s been awhile since Netflix has filled your life with serial killer content! However, this documentary looks to fill that Making a Murder hole in your schedule.
