Stephen King Weighs In On TV Projects ‘Mr. Mercedes’ ‘The Stand’ and ‘The Outsider’

Stephen King has been scaring audiences since the 1970s and his legacy is still continuing today. From blockbusters, series and limted miniseries, King’s works have been adapted across different platforms and media. But even today King‘s stories are still finding new audiences around the world.

Recently the King of horror sat down with EW to discuss some his newest projects that will be hitting small screens in the upcoming months and into 2021. Such as the second season of HBO’s series The Outsider, CBS All Access’ latest take on The Stand, and Mr. Mercedes, which is found its new home on Peacock.

The move of the series is something that Stephen King says is a good thing. “I’m so happy that Peacock is doing this because I felt like with Mr. Mercedes at AT&T we had brought a stadium show to a folk club,” King says. “Now people are going to get a chance to see it.”

When asked if he would like to see a fourth season of Mr. Mercedes, King says “I would love to see that happen. I think the actors would like to see it happen because they got into those parts. Actors have a way of doing that. They have a way of settling in — like into a new house. And then after a while, they’re really good at what they’re doing and dig deeper into the character. So I’d love to see it, but the three seasons are there and they’re pretty darn good.”

During the interview he also let slip that The Outsider is moving forward with a second season, even though HBO hasn’t made an official statement. He, of course, was unable to elaborate, but King says the series is headed down a spooky path. “I know exactly where it’s going because I have seen some of the scripts. I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you. I’ll just say that it’s really great and a real spooky paranormal element.”

Stephen King‘s most anticipated event of this year will be the new reimagining of his novel The Stand. Which features a new coda at the end that differs from his novel. King says he’s had the idea for the different ending for awhile now. “I was able to bring things back around. I’ve had an idea for that final episode that I always kind of regretted not writing it in the book — the book’s long enough as it is. I can’t tell you anything about the episode other than to say that I’ve seen a rough cut of it, and I think it’s fine.”

When asked about what fans can expect, he says expect some changes and great new directions for the beloved characters. “Obviously, they’ve updated it,” says King. “So there are cell phones, for one thing, and the technology has changed and they’ve changed some of the story. But the characters are terrific. Everybody is really good. I don’t think anybody can top Gary Sinise as Stu Redmond. But Alexander Skarsgard is a good Randall Flagg, he just knocked it out of the park. It’s big, let’s put it that way.”
