Shudder Celebrates Pride Month with Queer Horror and Thrillers
Shudder has announced that they are celebrating Pride month with a new category. The curated list features Queer films and projects from Queer creators. The films featured honor the stories and impact of Queer stories/creators within the Horror genre.
In addition to some old school horror creators such as Clive Barker, they will also be releasing two new films. The first film, The Wild Boys, will premiere on Shudder on June 17th.
The Wild Boys
The Wild Boys, is about five adolescent boys who are infatuated by the arts, but instead are drawn to a life of crime. After committing a brutal crime, they’re forced to board a boat. Paired with a captain who is hell-bent on taming their ferocious appetites. After arriving on a lush island where dangers and pleasures are everywhere. Therefore the boys start to transform in both mind and body. Shot in 16mm and featuring themes of eroticism, genderfluidity, and humor. From director Bertrand Mandico Starring: Pauline Lorillard, Vimala Pons, Diane Rouxel, Anaël Snoek, Mathilde Warnier.
Knife+Heart
From director Yann Gonzalez and starring Vanessa Paradis, Kate Moran, Nicolas Maury, Knife+Heart is set in Paris, in the summer of 1979. Anne, played by French pop star Vanessa Paradis, produces third-rate gay porn. After her editor/lover leaves her, she tries to win her back by shooting her most ambitious film yet. But one of her actors is brutally murdered, and Anne gets caught up in the investigation turning her life upside-down. This blood-soaked ode to ’70s-era De Palma, Argento, and Friedkin, was shot on 35mm and features a retro score. Knife+Heart premieres on Shudder on June 20th.

The Legend of Lizzie Borden. So many stories about Lizzie. This one is worth checking out for me. Queer films by queer creators is certainly a new category I had not heard of.
I had no clue that this is a movie category, very interesting!
I had no clue that queer movies or even the category of queer creators was a thing. I figured that was simply part of an overall story that fell into a bigger category of horror, romance, comedy, and so on. I’ve certainly learned something from reading this article. Lizzie looks interesting to me, but I’ve always wanted to know more about her story, so I’m definitely checking this one out! I’m not normally a horror film kind of person, but that one has my attention.
I’d not heard of the new category. I like the look of some of the movies you’ve listed. Must look out for them.
Here we go again! My horror movie weirdos will be happy to read this.
What an awesome idea for pride month! I had never heard of the queer horror genre before, but I will definitely be watching a couple of these on movie nights.
I never really payed attention of who and for whom people are making movies. for me it’s more of if I like it or not (selfish, I know) but I am very happy people dig into queer more, taking more as part of day to day life. I do hope in future queer will be same as anything else and completely normal so we don’t really need a category for it
The Wild Boys sounds interesting. I don’t usually think of humor along with horror.
I learned something new today! I’m not a fan of horror movies; wish I was! I agree with Lyosha and wish that we didn’t have to categorize everything…some day!
I haven’t watched any of these films but horror is one if my favorite genre for movies. So I would like to check this out! This sounds fun to watch 😄
