In honor of Black History month we will be ranking our top African American Horror actors/actresses who bring their amazing talents to the horror genre. This week we are kicking things off with some of our favorite comedic horror actors. Because no matter what type of horror films you love, we always need a bit of comedy to break the tension!

10. Jibrail Nantambu

New comer Jibrail Nantambu showed his comedic chops in last years Halloween sequel. His performance, while short, provided a hilarious addition to the film. And left the audience wanting more of his adorable sass. The scene stealing actor also had an appearance in the AMC’s Preacher and is set to appear in an untitled Hilde Lysiak project which is currently in pre-production.

9.Kadeem Hardison

Hardison has appeared in numerous films and televisions shows throughout his lengthy career. However, his character Julius in the 1995 film Vampire in Brooklyn earns him the number 9 spot for comedic geniuses. His character is a different take on the undead aid to his vampire overlord, Eddie Murphy. Hardison brings a hilarious take on the decomposition as his character falls apart. Making him the “best ghoul ever.”

7. Mike Epps

Epps is a comedian will with a long work history. However, his comedic moments in the Resident Evil franchise brings him in at number seven. Particularly, the scene in Resident Evil: Apocalypse , when he is running down zombies on the streets of Raccoon City.

6. Brandon Quintin Adams

Adams is most known for roles in films like The Sandlot and The Mighty Ducks franchise. However, his memorable turn in Wes Craven’s The People Under The Stairs as “Fool” is enough to nab him the number 6 spot.

5. Miguel A. Núñez Jr.

Núñez played Spider, in 1985’s The Return of the Living Dead . While his character is one of the token trope characters of the 1980s, he does manage to survive long enough to die by a nuclear explosion with the rest of the would-be survivors. Spider, fights his way to the number 5 spot, for his hilarity while taking out the undead. Núñez also appeared shortly in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning.

4. Alexandra Shipp

Shipp starred in the 2017 film Tragedy Girls. The brutal horror/comedy centers around two high school girls who use their online show about real-life tragedies to cement their legacy as modern horror legends. Shipp gets her hands dirty, providing her wit and nonchalant humor to the number 4 spot.

3.Craig Robinson

Craig Robinson has starred in many films and television shows in the horror genre. Most notably are his roles in Tragedy Girls and the comedy/action/supernatural This is the End. Robinson’s timing and ability to turn a phrase is what secures his spot in the top three.

2. Lil Rel Howery

Howery brought his comedic abilities to the 2017 breakout hit Get Out from Jordan Peele. His character Rod Williams, is a TSA agent who ends up saving the day and the lead character. His scenes are short but they pack a punch, and help to relieve the tension throughout the film. One thing is for sure, Howery made us believe in the powers of the T-S-mothafuckin-A.

1. Regina Hall

Regina Hall’s character Brenda Meeks from the early Scary Movie films, more than earns her spot at number one. Hall starred in 4 of the 5 Scary Movie films and brought her hilarious comedic abilities and timing. From the hilarious movie theater scene to the her horny advances toward repressed men. 1. Craig Robinson makes me smile. I’m not really into the horror genre, but sometimes horror flicks that can make me laugh too make it in to my viewing routine.

  2. You had me at “horror.” I think this a great and unusual tribute to BHM. There’s a couple of movies in here I haven’t watched. I see a Netflix binge in my future!!!

  3. I’m not much of a horror fan, but I’d love to see a grown-up Brandon Quintin Adams. Plus the little kid at #10 looks like an interesting pick for this genre.

  4. From one horror fan to another, this is a solid list! I’m gonna have to go back and watch a couple of these! You also gotta give up some love to my man, the Candyman himself, MR. TONY F’ING TODD! Also, I’m eager to see what Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke can do in 2019’s US! You pumped for that one too?

  5. Regina Hall is amazing in EVERYTHING! Brenda is one of the most memorable characters from the Scary Movie franchise, and she makes me laugh every single time, even all these years later. I wonder if Regina Hall will ever do another horror film again.

  6. I’ve never been big on horror movies… like sleeping soundly at night too much. LOL But having said that, I may have to look into some of these as my husband is not on the same page as me on this. 🙂 Thanks for the suggestions. I think he’ll be grateful, too.
