Bill Skarsgård Is Becoming ‘The Crow’ in new Reboot

The Crow franchise has been stuck in preproduction limbo for more than a decade. But now it looks like they have found a new anti-hero in It star Bill Skarsgård. The Hollywood Reporter was first to break the news and was soon confirmed by numerous outlets. The news was viewed with suspicion at first, because it arrived on April Fools Day.

Bill Skarsgård will star in the revenge horror/thriller with director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) helming the project. Edward R. Pressman, who also produced the 1994 film starring Brandon Lee (pictured below) is back with co-producer Malcolm Gray. Having previously co-produced the Chadwick Boseman thriller 21 Bridges. The script was penned by Zach Baylin (King Richard), who also wrote the screenplay for Creed III, which is currently filming.

Brandon Lee in The Crow

The Crow was an indie comic by James O’Barr in the late 1980s. It was later adapted into a film that followed a man who returns from the dead to get revenge on the gang that murdered him and his fiancee. The 1994 film was loved by audiences and is the last performance of the star (Lee) who died after sustaining injuries from a prop gun on set.

Skarsgård is said to be playing the role of Eric Draven, who will crawl out of the grave to take down those who wronged him. According to THR, the project is already begun preproduction with shooting set to begin in June, in Prague and Munich. There have been numerous attempts to reboot The Crow, with the last attempt seeing Jason Momoa attached to star but the project fell through due to financial issues.

The Crow franchise featured three sequels and TV series however since the dismal release of 2005’s Wicked Prayer the franchise has stayed in the grave. Coincidently, the Horror PSA Podcast just reviewed The Crow: Wicked Prayer. Which was less than great, but does feature a crazy performance of Dennis Hopper.
