You May Remove Your Wigs, ‘The Witches’ are back!
Anne Hathaway is reportedly set to star as the Grand High Witch in the Robert Zemeckis adaptation of the 1973 novel, “The Witches”. The role that was originally portrayed by Anjelica Huston in the 1990 film.
The first adaptation follows a 7-year-old boy who accidentally stumbles upon a witches convention in the countryside of England. Then when he is discovered, the witches promptly turn him into a mouse, and chaos ensues. Details about the script are still unknown, but it has been reported that Zemeckis will stay close to the original storyline of the book.
Recently Zemeckis sat down with the French outlet Allocine, and says the new film will be set in the US. “We’re going to set it in the Gothic South in the 1960s. It’s an exciting way to put a sociological spin on this kind of witch story.” While many fans are getting tired of reboots and remakes, this story has the potential be properly brought back for a new generation. Anne Hathaway can give us a different kind of Grand High Witch. While Zemeckis will bring his creative genius and give us a new spin to this beloved story. With Guillermo Del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron producing there may be hope for this reboot yet!
