Willem Dafoe will join Bradly Cooper in Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Nightmare Alley’
Willem Dafoe, will descend into madness in the upcoming A24 horror film The Lighthouse. But today it was announced that he will be joining yet another horror project. Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley has landed the Death Note actor, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Dafoe will join the already cast Bradley Cooper, Toni Collette, Rooney Mara, David Strathairn and Cate Blanchett. The film will be based on the 1946 noir novel by William Lindsay Gresham. Set in world of sleazy conmen, hustlers and carnival hustlers, viewers will follow a mentalist (played by Cooper) who joins a psychologist to cheat the rich. Dafoe is reportedly portraying a head barker at a traveling carnival.
Del Toro will helm the thriller and also co-wrote the script with Kim Morgan. The Fox Searchlight film will begin shooting in early 2020 in Toronto.
Back in 1947 Nightmare Alley was brought to the big screen by Fox. The 1947 movie starred Tyrone Power as a young con-man who teams up with a female psychiatrist, Joan Blondell, who is more dastardly than he is. This time around the film adaptation will focus predominantly on the William Lindsay Gresham novel.
