[Watch] 'The Black Phone' Trailer Reveals New Masks and a Creepy Ethan Hawke

Blumhouse has continually brought fans a steady stream of horror films and next up is The Black Phone. The film was written by Scott Derrickson, who also directed, and C. Robert Cargill, based on the 2004 short story from Joe Hill. Derrickson and Cargill have previously collaborated on Sinister, Sinister 2 and Doctor Strange.

Blumhouse revealed the trailer ahead of its screening at the 2022 Overlook Film Festival, before heading to theaters on June 24. The phone is broken but it may be the only thing that can save a young kidnapping victim. The Black Phone stars Mason Thames, as an abducted child who discovers that he can communicate with those who fell victim to the kidnapper before him.

Ethan Hawke plays the creepy, masked villain and from the looks of the trailer, it might just be his most unsettling performance to date. Director/effects genius Tom Savini and his team were responsible for designing the masks, that will soon be haunting your dreams. Also starring in the film are actors Jeremy Davies (The House That Jack Built), Madeleine McGraw (The Mitchells vs the Machines), and James Ransone (It Chapter Two).

Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.

Starring four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke in the most terrifying role of his career and introducing Mason Thames in his first ever film role, The Black Phone is produced, directed, and co-written by Scott Derrickson, the writer-director of Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
