‘Train to Busan’ Follow-up ‘Peninsula’ Acquired by Well Go USA

Well Go USA has officially acquired the North American rights for director Yeon Sang-ho’s Peninsula. The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2016 film Train to Busan is set four years after the zombie outbreak. According to THR the film is currently in post production and expected to hit Korean theaters this summer.

Train to Busan is timeless,” said Well Go. “Four years after its North American release, it’s still one of our top performing titles. Our fans can’t get enough of it, so when we heard about Peninsula, we knew that not only was this a title that belongs under the Well Go brand, but also a story we wanted to continue to tell.”

Peninsula takes place four years after the outbreak of zombies that were chasing protagonists on a train speeding south to Busan. The Korean peninsula is devastated and Jung-seok, a former soldier who has managed to escape overseas, is given a mission to go back and unexpectedly meets up with survivors.”

With nearly double the budget of Train to Busan the film will be focused on the entire Korean peninsula, instead of one city. Sang-ho has clarified that while the new film follows the same outbreak, it is not a direct sequel to Train to Busan. Stating that, “Peninsula is not a sequel to Train to Busan because it’s not a continuation of the story, but it happens in the same universe.”

While there is currently no release date for Peninsula, fans can expect it to be released sometime in 2020. Be sure to follow ScaryNerd and we will keep you updated as this story develops.
