Tim Burton Shopping Around New Live Action ‘Addams Family’ TV Series

Deadline exclusively revealed today that Tim Burton is looking to develop a live action The Addams Family series. Sources for Deadline say that Burton “is negotiating to executive produce and possibly direct all episodes of this new take on the franchise.”  Developers/executive producers of Smallville, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, are writing the series and will also serve as showrunners.

MGM TV currently holds the rights to the IP, and have reportedly financed the development of the series. Currently the package has multiple bids, including from Netflix which is at the top of the list per Deadline.

While MGM has not confirmed any of these reports, rumors say that the new version would be set today and from the perspective of Wednesday Addams. A Tim Burton take on The Addams Family seems like a perfect fit with his dark and creepy style. The Addams Family, a supernatural fictional family was originally created in 1938 by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938. There have been a number of adaptations, including two live-action TV series; a film franchise; and most recently an animated movie from MGM with a new sequel coming in 2021.

Tim Burton has previously adapted the Alice In Wonderland franchise for Disney. He is also responsible for many of the Halloween favorites that horror fans watch every year.
