‘The New Mutants’ Producer Explains Why the Film Was Delayed Again
Josh Boone’s horror centered X-Men film was supposed to hit theaters in 2018. It was then pushed back until August of 2019. But after Disney’s acquisition of Fox, The New Mutants release date was moved again to 2020. So why have we been waiting so long for this film? Digital Spy recently spoke with producer Simon Kinberg and got some answers. According to Kinberg, reshoots are still needed for the release.
“What’s happening is we’re gonna do reshoots this year on that film and it has a new release date from Disney. That’s really it. Part of it was figuring out what the reshoots were gonna be, the pick-ups, and the other part of it was getting that cast back together.”
“It would seem simple..”
With stars like Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Alice Braga, and Charlie Heaton, it’s easy to understand. Kinberg explained the difficulty of getting the cast back together. “It would seem simple on The New Mutants because they may be not as big movie stars as the main X-Men movies, but all of them are on TV shows, so we’ve got to wait until they get off their shows and they can all be in the same place at the same time.”
However, he was hopeful about finally getting the film to audiences. Kinberg also said that, thanks to Marvel, the days of scrambling are over. “For all of these movies, Marvel’s really brilliant at scheduling pick-ups into their budget and schedule so it’s all prepared, and we have never been that smart. For us, we’re always scrambling to get these actors back together so they’re all in the same place at the same time.”
Hopefully, The New Mutants will hit theaters on April 3, 2020. You can check out the trailer below. Leave us a comment and let us know if you’re still excited for this film. Be sure to follow ScaryNerd for more of all things horror!
