Stephen King & J.J. Abrams to adapt ‘Lisey’s Story’ as series for Apple starring Julianne Moore

Apple TV has announced they will partner with Stephen King, Julianne Moore and J.J. Abrams for an adaptation of King’s Lisey’s Story. The eight episode series, based on the King best-seller, follows Lisey two years after the death of her novelist husband. In a series of events she is forced to deal with repressed memories of their life together, which leads to conflict with a disturbed fan of her late husband.

King will, not only Executive produce with Moore and Abrams but, also write all eight episodes of the series. This marks a rare occasion for King to write for television. However this book is among his personal favorites of his work. Lisey’s Story is the latest collaboration for King and Abram’s Bad Robot as they previously released 11.22.63 and Castle Rock, both for Hulu.

A New Era of Stephen King

This comes at a time where it seems fans and studios can’t get enough of Stephen King’s work. In a recent EW interview King stated “I don’t know what to make of it, really. Every day I get another contract, another option, word that somebody is making this or that. I see scripts. Let’s put it this way, I’m in a seller’s market right now. There’s a huge hunger for story, because there’s so many different platforms now. It isn’t just the movies.”

The latest version of King’s Pet Sematary just debuted at $42.5 million worldwide this past weekend. This year will already see the releases of IT: Chapter 2 and Doctor Sleep, the sequel to The Shining. With talks of new versions of The Talisman, The Tommyknockers and The Stand on the way as well.

Per sources, the search for a director for the series is currently underway, and there has been no release date yet. So stay tuned and follow ScaryNerd for all your horror news.
