Chop Chop

Review: ‘Chop Chop’ is A Gory Crime Horror Story

Chop Chop from Kamikaze Dogfight in partnership with Gravitas Ventures, a Red Arrow Studios company premieres today on Digital HD and Cable VOD. Co-written by Andrew Ericksen and director Rony Patel, this debut slasher has lots of bloody fun. Starring Atala Arce, Jake Taylor, and David Harpe, when a couple sets off a chain of events that lead them down a dangerous path. They must fight for their survival against a number of unsavory characters.

Chop Chop

Chop Chop‘s story is actually quite interesting, even though the film starts off a little slow. The characters add to the dread and set the tension. But what really set this film apart for me is the story.

The misdirection in this film keeps you guessing, as the seeming villain of the story meets a gory end within the first few minutes. However things don’t slow down as the couple stumbles to clean up after needing to save themselves from the pizza delivering psycho. The couple continuously attempts to right their course which just digs them deeper into a seedy world.

The story brings in a bunch of different elements that somehow all work well together. This isn’t a classic horror but does have gallons of blood and gore. There is also a sci-fi element that adds to the overall unease of the whole film. The characters and misdirections actually add a cohesiveness that is rarely seen in horror.

There are lots of things that seem meaningless until the end, something of which does not usually happen in horror. Moreover, Chop Chop is brutal, bloody but still feels fresh. Which is something that I will always appreciate in any new film. Plus buckets of gore, progressively interesting characters and a creepy backdrop. Chop Chop is a Fargo-esque crime horror with twice the amount of crazy. 3.5/5

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
