Pollyanna McIntosh’s Directorial Debut Darlin’ Comes to SXSW

Before Pollyanna McIntosh first appeared as Jadis/Annie on AMC’s The Walking Dead, she was known to horror fans as The Woman. The 2011 Lucky Mckee film shocked audiences with McIntosh’s feral and cannibalistic character. Now the Woman is back and on the hunt for her Darlin’. McIntosh has returned to that dark and twisted world for her directorial debut. Darlin‘ takes place ten years after the first film when McIntosh’s creepy character escaped with the then-young Darlin’. After the Woman was taken to an all-female homeless encampment, Darlin’ is now in a Catholic home for girls. However, the Woman is determined to come for her, no matter who stands in her way.

“Found at a Catholic hospital filthy and ferocious, feral teenager Darlin’ is whisked off to a care home run by The Bishop and his obedient nuns where she is to be tamed into a ‘good girl.’ However, Darlin’ holds a secret darker than the ‘sins’ she is threatened with, and she is not traveling alone. The Woman, equally fierce and feral, who raised her is ever present and is determined to come for her no matter who tries to step in her way. Continuing the twistedly vicious adventure of Lucky McKee’s cult hit The Woman. Darlin’ sees standout star Pollyanna McIntosh both in front of and behind the camera, expertly commanding an all-consuming feast on the senses and sensibility in equal measure.”- SXSW

Not Alone

McIntosh who wrote and directed the film, spoke with EW earlier this year about the experience. “Having the opportunity to bring together such a talented cast and crew as a director was a thrill, and I loved every insane minute of making Darlin’.”

Going further, McIntosh explains that the lead of the film brings new life to the franchise.“Lauryn Canny, is pure lightning, and I can’t wait for people to see her talent as Darlin’. Watching her work with actors I’ve long admired, like Bryan Batt and Nora Jane Noone, was amazing, and a nicer bunch of folks to be in an indie foxhole with I can’t imagine!”

Darlin’ received its world premiere at this year’s SXSW film festival. Later this month it will make it’s way to New York and screen at What The Fest?! Watch the teaser trailer below and be sure to stay tuned for more updates!
