James Wan Directing Original Horror Film For New Line

The Conjuring universe filmmaker James Wan has secured his next horror project. Before he heads to produce and possibly direct Aquaman 2, Wan will direct an untitled original thriller. The script was written by Wan and Ingrid Bisu, and production will begin this fall in Los Angeles. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film was a recipient of the Independent California Film Rebate.

The untitled horror project will be produced through the Atomic Monster banner with Wan and Michael Clear for New Line. Starlight Media and Midas Innovation will independently finance the movie and will retain distribution rights in China. Wan has previously collaborated with New Line on The Conjuring universe, The Curse of La Llorona, Lights Out and the upcoming Mortal Kombat.

Of course, plot details are being kept under wraps, but it’s expected to be a new type of horror film for the director. James Wan made waves in the horror genre with his franchise launching, Saw in 2004. Lately he has been a mainstay of The Conjuring universe. Having directed the first two installments and produced many of the spinoff films.

Wan last directed the DC and Warner Bros.’ Aquaman, which grossed over $1 billion globally. He’s currently producing the third installment of The Conjuring which is currently in production.
