‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Sets Comeback as Amazon Orders Reboot Series

Amazon Studios is bringing back the 1997 slasher story of I Know What You Did Last Summer, and giving it a modern take. The reboot will be adapted as a series and Amazon is partnering with Sony Pictures Television.

The new I Know What You Did Last Summer series is written by Sara Goodman (Preacher). Just like the original, the new series is based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan. The series will have the the same premise as the movie adaptation. Featuring the themes of a small town with secrets, a group of teenagers who make lots of bad choices and, are later stalked by a mysterious killer one year after a fatal accident.

“The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this I Know What You Did Last Summer series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie,” said Albert Cheng, COO and CO-Head of Television, Amazon Studios. “Any way you slice it, our global Prime Video customers will love this modern take on the fan favorite film.”

The I Know What You Did Last Summer project has actually been in the works for a few years at Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures TV. The 1997 film’s producer Neal H. Moritz, is behind the push to reimagine the story for a new age. Last year, James Wan and his Atomic Monster boarded the series according to sources for Deadline.

The original film was written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Jim Gillespie. Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr., it also spawned two sequels. You can check out the original trailer below.
