‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’: Marvel Taps New Writer After Scott Derrickson Exits

Things continue to spiral downhill for fans who were hoping to see the first Marvel horror movie. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was originally to be helmed by director Scott Derrickson (Sinister). Derrickson had previously directed the first installment of Doctor Strange. However, he left the project last week, due to creative difference. But don’t worry, because that will free him up to work on his next rated R horror film.

Now Sam Raimi is in talks to take over as director on the project. But according to THR, Marvel has also tapped a new writer to rework the story. Michael Waldron, head writer of the Disney+ series Loki, and Rick and Morty will now step in to helm the script.

Jade Bartlett was originally tapped to write the horror themed Multiverse of Madness. Which was billed by Marvel as its first scary movie. But with the change up of both director and writers, it’s looks like Marvel and Derrickson had different visions of what scary is. Marvel had no comment on Derrickson’s departure and has no comment on Waldron’s hiring.

Fans are now hopeful that Sam Raimi will make his return to the MCU, having last directed Spider-Man 3 in 2007. However, we will have to wait and see just how scary Marvel will allow Doctor Strange to be.
