'Charles' Creator: Chucky will be Scarier than Ever

It’s a weird time to be a fan of the Child’s play franchise. In a recent article we attempted to navigate through all the new developments this year. Universal is releasing a TV series on SyFy, with original creator Don Mancini. MGM is set to premiere a new film that reboots the franchise in a whole new direction. And there is a very interesting fan film that is getting a lot of buzz right now. We wanted to know more so we reached to the filmmaker himself, Tony Bizz. He had some interesting details to share with us. And fans are sure to get excited for this incarnation of the killer doll.

We wondered what drew Tony to this project. Obviously any filmmaker has to be a fan of their projects, but there has to be more. This is a complete passion project for those involved. As they will not make any profit off of the film. So, where does the passion come from?

“Since I started filmmaking back in 2007 I always had in the back of my mind that one day I want to do my own Chucky fan film when I have the proper filming tools to make it happen. In 2016 I met a couple of artists that made custom Chucky dolls and that’s when I knew it was time to start this project. I wanted to show the world my vision on what I can do with this character. So I bought new film equipment, order me a custom Chucky doll and built a phenomenal team that also were Chucky fans. I felt Chucky needed to be scary again like the first film and I wanted to bring that back.”

As any filmmaker can attest to, it really comes down to meeting the right people with a shared passion. This is the case here as well. But, what should fans expect from this film?

“A brand new scary Chucky like you’ve never seen him before! My favorite Chucky movie will always be the first one, Child’s Play. That movie scared me very much as a kid growing up and I really like how they made the doll look more human at the very ending of that movie in which makes him scarier. Then I met a very talented SFX artist by the name is Michael Lawrence (Producer/SFX Producer for Charles) and he has been working his tail off custom making these different looks of Chucky for this film. I truly think fans would love how we are making Chucky look different and Chucky is one VERY brutal s.o.b. and very powerful in this film!”

All fans can agree there is a special place in their cold dead hearts for the original Child’s Play! Fans seem to want to get back to that nostalgic evil character they met as a child. How will this film set itself apart from other Child’s Play projects?

“The tone and feel is very much different from the Child’s Play series. My vision was to take Chucky as a character and mixed in with The Conjuring world, imagine that! I’m a very big fan of The Conjuring series, James Wan (is) one of my favorite directors, so imagine Chucky in a paranormal world which makes it even more creepier!”

A Child’s Play film that dives deeper into the paranormal realm. This is a new direction that hopefully fans can get on board with. When asked about future projects, Tony had this to say:

“I have a handful of ideas I want to do from horror to comedy. But, after this CHARLES project I do have something in mind that I have been writing ideas down for and of course it would be a full length horror film. But cannot say anymore but I will keep the media updated as time goes!

While, this film may not have a major studio behind it, it does sound interesting. When you have a filmmaker like Tony and his team doing this purely as fans, it can be something truly special. In any case the possibilities that Tony has mentioned seem very promising.
