Blumhouse and Paramount are developing 'Paranormal Activity 7'

You can’t have too much of a good thing, right? That seems to be the case with the Paranormal Activity franchise. The series has spanned six films and made it’s studios a lot of money with very little budget. Now according to The Wrap, Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos announced at CineEurope in Barcelona that a seventh installment is in the works. Paramount will again partner with producer Jason Blum, of Blumhouse.

Said Gianopulos, “We are partnering with uber horror producer Jason Blum to bring a new installment of Paranormal Activity.” Currently there is no working title or any cast details available. However, the film would be the seventh film in a nearly $900M worldwide grossing series.

The first Paranormal Activity became a massive hit. This was due in large part to a brilliant marketing ploy. Which ended up selling the film to audiences in a way others have failed to emulate. Released in 2009, the film grossed $193 million worldwide on a shoestring budget of roughly $15,000. The following films saw the story unfold in a number of ways. Themes of witchcraft, possession and even some time travel, kept the franchise a staple of the horror scene up until 2015.

The last installment, Paranormal Activity: Ghost Dimension was the sixth movie in the franchise. But was actually a sequel to the fourth film, which was the lowest-earner of the franchise. Of course, plot details for the seventh installment are being kept under wraps for now. But seeing how Blumhouse has a soft spot for reinventing franchises, we can assume this film will somehow tie into the others.
