In honor of Black History month we will be ranking our top African American Horror actors/actresses who bring their amazing talents to the horror genre. This week we are kicking things off with some of our favorite comedic horror actors. Because no matter what type of horror films you love, we always need a bit of comedy to break the tension!
10. Jibrail Nantambu
New comer Jibrail Nantambu showed his comedic chops in last years Halloween sequel. His performance, while short, provided a hilarious addition to the film. And left the audience wanting more of his adorable sass. The scene stealing actor also had an appearance in the AMC’s Preacher and is set to appear in an untitled Hilde Lysiak project which is currently in pre-production.
9.Kadeem Hardison
Hardison has appeared in numerous films and televisions shows throughout his lengthy career. However, his character Julius in the 1995 film Vampire in Brooklyn earns him the number 9 spot for comedic geniuses. His character is a different take on the undead aid to his vampire overlord, Eddie Murphy. Hardison brings a hilarious take on the decomposition as his character falls apart. Making him the “best ghoul ever.”
7. Mike Epps
Epps is a comedian will with a long work history. However, his comedic moments in the Resident Evil franchise brings him in at number seven. Particularly, the scene in Resident Evil: Apocalypse , when he is running down zombies on the streets of Raccoon City.
6. Brandon Quintin Adams
Adams is most known for roles in films like The Sandlot and The Mighty Ducks franchise. However, his memorable turn in Wes Craven’s The People Under The Stairs as “Fool” is enough to nab him the number 6 spot.
5. Miguel A. Núñez Jr.
Núñez played Spider, in 1985’s The Return of the Living Dead . While his character is one of the token trope characters of the 1980s, he does manage to survive long enough to die by a nuclear explosion with the rest of the would-be survivors. Spider, fights his way to the number 5 spot, for his hilarity while taking out the undead. Núñez also appeared shortly in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning.
4. Alexandra Shipp
Shipp starred in the 2017 film Tragedy Girls. The brutal horror/comedy centers around two high school girls who use their online show about real-life tragedies to cement their legacy as modern horror legends. Shipp gets her hands dirty, providing her wit and nonchalant humor to the number 4 spot.
3.Craig Robinson
Craig Robinson has starred in many films and television shows in the horror genre. Most notably are his roles in Tragedy Girls and the comedy/action/supernatural This is the End. Robinson’s timing and ability to turn a phrase is what secures his spot in the top three.
2. Lil Rel Howery
Howery brought his comedic abilities to the 2017 breakout hit Get Out from Jordan Peele. His character Rod Williams, is a TSA agent who ends up saving the day and the lead character. His scenes are short but they pack a punch, and help to relieve the tension throughout the film. One thing is for sure, Howery made us believe in the powers of the T-S-mothafuckin-A.
1. Regina Hall
Regina Hall’s character Brenda Meeks from the early Scary Movie films, more than earns her spot at number one. Hall starred in 4 of the 5 Scary Movie films and brought her hilarious comedic abilities and timing. From the hilarious movie theater scene to the her horny advances toward repressed men. Brenda Meeks is the best comedic character in a horror/comedy. Don’t believe us? Try not to laugh at this clip below.
