'Black Christmas': Here's Everything We Know About Blumhouse's Remake

Universal and Blumhouse have announced that they are remaking the 1974 classic ‘Black Christmas‘. Plus the new version of the horror classic will be in theaters in time for the holidays!

The remake will open on Friday, Dec. 13th of this year and comes from director Sophia Takal (Blumhouse TV’s Into the Dark). Per Blumhouse’s plot description, “Hawthorne College is quieting down for the holidays. One by one, sorority girls on campus are being killed by an unknown stalker. But the killer is about to discover that this generation’s young women aren’t willing to become hapless victims as they mount a fight to the finish.”

Inspired by the classic urban legend “The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs.” ‘Black Christmas‘ is considered a pioneer of the slasher genre, inspiring many slasher films of the 80s. It included an ending that shocked it’s 1970s audiences, like many horror films of the time.

Sophia and April Wolfe co-wrote the script and Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions is producing. The remake comes after Blumhouse successful 2018 Halloween reboot which earned $255.4 million. The film stars Imogen Poots (Green Room), Aleyse Shannon (Charmed), Brittany O’Grady (Star), Lily Donoghue (The Goldbergs) and Caleb Eberhardt (Broadway’s Choir Boy).

Back in 2006, director Glen Morgan directed a loosely based remake popularly known as ‘Black X-Mas‘. But after apparent behind the scene drama. Specifically with Dimension executives Bob and Harvey Weinstein, the film suffered. Hopefully, Blumhouse can create a remake worthy of the ‘Black Christmas’ title!
