Bill Skarsgård says ‘It: Chapter Two’ will bring a more vengeful Pennywise

We know that we haven’t seen the last of Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Even though he was seemingly defeated at the end of It: Chapter One. After the trailer [below] dropped today it’s clear, Pennywise is back and starving. According to Bill Skarsgård, fans should expect an even more bloodthirsty clown in the upcoming It: Chapter Two.

Last year after the first film was released Skarsgård sat down with EW, and gave some details about our trip back to Derry, Maine.

Firstly, its been 27 years, and fear has changed Pennywise.

“The arc of the first movie is that he, for the first time, experiences fear himself. His last line — ‘Fear…’ — is him experiencing it for the first time, and he’s sort of shocked and perplexed and surprised. Like, what is this?”

But he will still be the wacky and crazy clown we all know and love.

“He’s been doing this forever really, so he doesn’t change in the sense that you would look differently. He looks however he wants to look for any particular prey at the time, but I do think there’s a change,” Skarsgård says.

Pennywise feeds on fear, but “The Losers Club” made him feel the emotion for the first time. This will come into play in the second act.

“We can still sort of shock them”

“The Losers Club” may have forced the diabolical clown back into hibernation. But after the creature’s long rest, the entity is angry and will hit back harder than before.

“He’s inflicted fear on his prey, and he’s very focused on fear, but he’s never experienced it himself. Now he’s experienced something that he has been inflicting on others and … there’s a shift leading into the second movie. It fuels hatred and anger towards the kids, who will be adults in this one, so I think there might be an even more vicious Pennywise. He’s really going after it.”

Skarsgård also says that It: Chapter Two will feature a more deranged version of the monster. By pushing the limits of It’s manipulations and bringing some of the darkest incarnations to life.

“There’s a lot to explore. You can change him or make him whackier, but he’s not really bound to continuity in the sense that a normal character would be. We can explore his unpredictability now that we’ve established the character for the audience. We can still sort of shock them.”

The first footage was released today and fans of both the original 90s miniseries and book were excited to see some of our favorite scenes come back to life.

“You know what they say about Derry…”

The trailer takes us back to the childhood home of Beverly Marsh (Jessica Chastain). As she tours her old unhappy home, she chats with the friendly tenant who currently resides there. Things start to take a dark turn almost immediately and Bev starts to see things as they really are.

We also got a peek at “The Losers Club” assembling for the first time in 27 years. The trailer certainly gave fans lots to discuss. Even if it left us wanting more of the crazy Dancing Clown. But we will undoubtedly see more of Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise as the release date approaches.

  1. I love everything Stephan King. I loved the It reboot and the first tv series movie. I first read the book as a kid and thought it was super scary. I can’t wait for the next movie to come out in September.
