Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Bill Murray Says ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ will have “lots of emotion”

Details for the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife have been kept tightly under wraps since the project was announced. Even after the release of the first trailer, the director and crew have refused to elaborate on any details. However, production allowed Vanity Fair to visit the set and sit down with two Ghostbuster originals, Bill Murray and Jason Reitman.

When the project was first announced it wasn’t clear who would be returning to their original characters. Bill Murray is a particular actor who is famously difficult to get ahold of. So fans were very excited once he officially signed on. Director Jason Reitman has known Murray since childhood, since Reitman was making appearances in his dad’s films as a kid. According Vanity Fair, Murray agreed to read the script last spring. “The script is good. It’s got lots of emotion in it. It’s got lots of family in it, with through lines that are really interesting,” Murray said. “It’s gonna work.”

The original ghostbusters lineup included Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, and the late Harold Ramis. The living members will reprise their respective roles as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore. Also returning are Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver who were both in the original film and sequel.

While we don’t know exactly how the beloved characters will fit into the plot. Murray says that the story is written to include everyone. “Well, we are a man down. That’s the deal,” Murray said. “And that’s the story that we’re telling, that’s the story they’ve written.”

“I’m really honored “

“If I think about who I’m making this movie for, it’s my father,” says Jason Reitman, who’s father Ivan Reitman directed the original. “We all know what it’s like to be told stories by our parents. I’m really honored to get a chance to tell one back to him from the world he brought to life.”

The director also explained that his idea for the next generation of Ghostbusters began way before the movie was on the horizon. “Before I ever thought I could make a Ghostbusters film, the image of a 12-year-old girl carrying a proton pack popped into my head and just wouldn’t leave. Eventually, I knew who she was,” Reitman said. “I’m floored by the idea of what it would be like to find a proton pack in your grandparents’ basement. What would that discovery reveal about who you are and what adventures you’re about to go on?”

Reitman says he wants to make a film that will excite fans. “I wanted to make a movie about finding a proton pack in an old barn and the thrill of actually putting it on for the first time. I’ve had friends come to the set and hoist on the packs, and it always turns grown-ups into children.”

The film stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd. You can watch the latest trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife below. The film will hit theaters this summer on July 10th.
