AMC to launch a third ‘The Walking Dead’ series coming in 2020
Ever since the success of The Walking Dead in 2010, AMC has searching for a way to give fans more scares, gore and zombies. Shortly after the first season of TWD, there were rumors that a companion series was in the works. In 2015 Fear the Walking Dead was finally launched, with a few main characters of the original crossing over. Last year, it was announced that we are getting a trilogy of TWD films starring Andrew Lincoln‘s Rick Grimes. Now, it looks as though we are getting a new horde of zombies and a new group of survivors.
AMC has officially announced that it will begin shooting it’s third scripted TWD series this summer. The show will feature “two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”
“Decade of the Dead”
Scott M. Gimple and TWD writer/producer Matt Negrete, created the series with Negrete as acting showrunner. The show will start production on it’s 10 episode order this summer in Virginia.
Gimple had this to say in the AMC release: “Showing audiences an unseen pocket of The Walking Dead universe steeped in a new mythology is a very cool way to celebrate a ‘Decade of the Dead’ on TV and over 15 years of Robert Kirkman’s brilliant comic. Matt Negrete is one of the best writer-producers in TWD’s long history. I’m thrilled to be working beside him to tell stories unlike we’ve seen before, taking our first step into an even larger world.”
We are still waiting to hear when the Rick Grimes films will be released. But we’ll keep you updated as information is released. For now you can check out the latest trailer for season 5 of Fear the Walking Dead below, premiering June 2. And make sure to follow ScaryNerd for more horror news.
