Amblin to Turn Horror Short ‘The Blue Door’ into Feature Film
After some competition, Amblin Partners have officially secured the rights to the horror short The Blue Door. Creator Paul Taylor is currently on board to helm the full length version. Per the Hollywood Reporter Megan Pugh and Ben Clark, who wrote and produced the short, will also write the feature script as well as co-produce. With The Picture Company partners Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona, also on board as producers.
Amblin and The Picture Company are currently working on a number of horror/thriller projects together. Another horror thriller based on a short, entitled Larry, is currently in postproduction, as well as The White Room and Whisper. The company is currently in production on Studiocanal’s action thriller Gunpowder Milkshake.

Van Toffler and Floris Bauer of Gunpowder & Sky, whose Alter label premiered the short film online, will also executive produce. Jake Wagner and Scott Stoops of Good Fear Film +Managment, will serve as executive producers. Good Fear Film + Management are the team behind several horror short sales. Including the James Wan/Sam Raimi produced The Burden that recently landed at Starlight.
‘Maybe some doors are best left shut…’
The short, follows a nurse assigned to an elderly woman living in a unkept home. The nurse discovers a mysterious blue door and becomes the focus of a dark entity. However, once the door is opened, there will be devastating consequences. The feature version is described as having a strong dramatic core combined with a high-concept horror mythology.
