E3: The Blair Witch is Back on the Hunt In New Horror Video Game
Over the weekend at E3, Microsoft announced that the Blair Witch would be making her return! This time the franchise is continuing in video game form. The game is a first-person, story-driven psychological horror game based on the cinematic lore of Blair Witch.
The Blair Witch Project was released on July 16, 1999 and helped to launch the “found footage” sub-genre. The film followed three filmmaking students who hike the Black Hills near Burkittsville, Maryland in 1994. While filming a documentary about the legend of the woods, strange things begin to happen. Eventually, the three filmmakers become part of the legend themselves. Their equipment and footage is found a year later.
Like the films, this horror game is set in Maryland’s Black Hills Forest, in 1996. A young boy has disappeared and Ellis, a former police officer, joins the search. What starts off as an ordinary investigation soon turns into an endless nightmare as you confront your fears and the Blair Witch, a mysterious force that haunts the woods.
You can check out the trailer below. The game will be available on both XBOX One and PC platforms on August 30th. Be sure to follow ScaryNerd for more of all things horror!
