‘The Running Man’: Edgar Wright to Direct New Version of Stephen King novel
Paramount Pictures is currently working on a deal with Edgar Wright to develop and direct a new adaptation of The Running Man per sources for Deadline. Stephen King originally released this futuristic novel under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. Wright will co-write the story with Michael Bacall, and word is that they will attempt to stick closely to the bestselling novel. Meaning this will not be a remake of The Running Man starring Arnold Schwarzenegger from 1987.
The Running Man by Stephen King was released in 1982 and followed a man named Ben Richards. Set within a dystopian future where the government is looking to reduce the poor population, Ben is in desperate need of some money. As he watches his daughter, Cathy, grow more sick by the day, he realizes he must do something before she dies. As Cathy deteriorates further Ben decides to enlists himself in a true reality style game show, where the objective is merely to stay alive. However, he must also evade specially trained hunters, who’s only job is to stop any players from winning.
Director Edgar Wright’s next film, Last Night In Soho is currently looking at a spring release by Focus features. That’s all we know we know about The Running Man for now. Be sure to follow ScaryNerd to stay up to date on all things horror.
