‘Day of the Dead’ Series Ordered At Syfy Based on George A. Romero’s Classic
Syfy has ordered 10-episodes of a new zombie series based on George A. Romero’s film Day of the Dead. The show comes from Cartel Entertainment who were also behind the new Creepshow series at Shudder. Deadline exclusively broke the news this morning stating that the show is expected to air sometime in 2021.
Day of the Dead (85) was the third film in Romero’s original zombie trilogy. Beginning with 1968’s Night Of The Living Dead, and Dawn Of The Dead in 1978. Romero’s classic centers on an underground military base with scientists attempting to domesticate the undead.

The new series was written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who will also act as showrunners. The story will follow a group of six strangers as they fight to survive the first 24 hours of zombie outbreak. Hopefully, this reimagining of Romero’s work will be a breath of fresh air in an already tapped market of undead horror.
The Day of the Dead show is the latest in series orders for nostalgic projects. Syfy has already picked up a Chucky series from original Child’s Play creator Don Mancini. As we said above the new Day of the Dead series is expected to be released in 2021. Be sure to follow ScaryNerd for more of all things horror!
