Everyone act normal! THR is reporting that the CW and HBO Max have jointly acquired Wellington Paranormal, a spinoff of Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s 2014 vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows. The film has already spawned a television series at FX Networks by the same name. However, unlike the FX series Wellington Paranormal will follow the original police officers from the film.
The show is the first series to be jointly acquisitioned by two outlets; HBO Max parent company WarnerMedia jointly owns The CW with ViacomCBS. What We Do In The Shadows co-writers Clement and Waititi, created the series and executive produce alongside Paul Yates.

Reprising their roles for Wellington Paranormal are stars Karen O’Leary and Mike Minogue. The two hard-working members of the Wellington, New Zealand, constabulary’s paranormal unit, were not the most astute individuals in WWDITS. “Under the leadership of Sgt. Maaka (Maaka Pohatu), the unit investigates the surprisingly regular supernatural occurrences in the capital city.” Hopefully with the same amount of unawareness and deadpan comedy that made their film characters so great.
Wellington Paranormal will air first on the CW this summer, with HBO Max streaming the episodes the next day after their broadcast debut, as will the broadcaster’s ad-supported streaming platforms. Thats all we know for now, be sure to follow ScaryNerd for more as this story develops.
