CinemaCon is in full swing and Warner Bros. has announced plans for The Nun 2. Today Bloody Disgusting exclusively revealed that director Michael Chaves has been tapped to helm the project. Chaves first directed the 2019 Conjuring spin off The Curse of La Llorona, for the studio.
Last year the studio released the long awaited The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, which was also directed by Chaves. Now he is stepping into the world of the Nun, a.k.a Valak, one of the favorite demonic entities the Warrens have faced in the franchise. Valak was first introduced in The Conjuring 2, praying on children in an English suburb. Played by actress Bonnie Aarons, who reprised her role in The Nun and is expected to return for the sequel.

The Nun took fans to a secluded Romanian castle convent, full of mood and mystery. A priest is sent to investigate the suicide of one of the young nuns who resides within. However, he and his assistant end up confronting the evil trying to escape the depths of the castle, with hopes of sealing it inside forever. The film starred Demián Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet and was directed by Corin Hardy.
The film was a box office hit, raking in $365 million worldwide with only a $22 million budget. With numbers like that, it was inevitable that we’d see a sequel. While we have zero plot details, we do know that Akela Cooper (Malignant) will be writing The Nun 2.
