Jason Reitman, two time Oscar nominee and son of Ghostbusters (84) director Ivan Reitman, will direct a new film for the franchise. The new film is set to be released in 2020, and will begin shooting soon. The film will be a continuation of the original story. No word yet if the original cast, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and the late Harold Ramis, will make it into the film.
However, Reitman insists this will be a film for the fans of the original. “I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans.” Reitman goes on to say that this movie will be a sequel and not a reboot. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”
Reportedly the new film will not be connected to the 2016 Ghostbusters. Which seemed to have created a divide within the fandom. “I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film,” Reitman states.
While fans will still have a long wait, we can at least enjoy this little teaser for now.
