‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ the ‘Hill House’ Sequel We’ve Been Waiting For

Netflix has announced the next installment of their horror anthology ‘The Haunting’ is coming for us in 2020. According to the Hollywood Reporter the next chapter will take inspiration from The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.

‘Hill House‘ creator Mike Flanagan and executive producer Trevor Macy are both returning for season two. After they both inked a new multi-year deal with Netflix. For season one, creators drew inspiration from the 1959 Shirley Jackson novel The Haunting of Hill House. However, Bly Manor will be inspired by the 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. The story follows a young governess who is hired by a man to look after his nephew and niece after the deaths of their parents. However, things take a spooky turn when she discovers several ghost inhabiting her new residence.

The Haunting creators are not the only ones who are tackling James’ work. Universal Pictures is set to release its own adaptation starring Stranger Things alum, Finn Wolfhard. The Turning, is set to be a modern retelling of the story and will be set in Maine. Reimagined by director Floria Sigismondi, with Steven Spielberg as executive producer, The Turning is scheduled to be released in January of 2020.

We may have seen the end of the Crane family’s haunting, but more ghosts and ghouls are heading our way. There is currently no cast yet, but Flanagan is known for bringing back actors/actress from his previous projects. Therefore, we are sure to be in for a great horror-versed cast.

  1. I used to watch “scary” movies back in the day when you could see them every Friday night on “Creature Feature”. What was scary back then is a walk in the park today. This one sounds like a venture down a nightmare for me. Some days I think it might be fun to watch a scary movie again and then I start one and remember very quickly why I gave them up. LOL This one sounds like a great plot, but it will have to venture forth without me. 🙂 Great review!

  2. I am not a big scary movie guy, but my daughters like this genre. based on your descriptions, I will make sure I tell them that The Haunting is coming back (they probably know already though). Thanks.

  3. I still need to watch Hill House! I have so much on my “to watch” list it is hard to keep up with everything. This sounds awesome and I look forward to checking it out,.

  4. Nice! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Haunting On Hill House, so we’ll be checking this out for sure! And we also both love Stranger Things! Little Wolfhard was great in that show along with IT. I wanna see him in more stuff!

  5. I’ve never watched the Haunting of Hill House but now I think I may check it out. Both this one and the sequel look good!

  6. I’m going to stop searching through Netflix for something to watch, and just come visit your blog instead! Lol. Every time I read one of your posts, I get excited about the movies you talk about being available on Netflix so I can watch them. Looking forward to this being released because it sounds like it’ll be a good series to watch.

  7. Yay this is excellent news! I actually hate scary movies but my boyfriend loves them. Hill House was one of the few compromises we both enjoyed. I loved the characters and he loved the thrills.

  8. Season one was so amazing! I sort of wish that season 2 was a prequel, or some type of continuation because the original cast was so great. Can’t wait to see how the next season unfolds!

  9. Okay, I could not look at the picture. lol. I watched the episode 1-3 of the first season during a family gathering. The next days, I could not take a shower when I’m alone at the house or even vacuum the house. I always imagine that the ‘bent neck’ lady would just suddenly appear!

  10. I have read The Turn of the Screw. I remember how impressed I was with the transition from real to surreal, and from perception to illusion. Good choice for the sequel.

  11. I am going to direct all my horror movie lover friend to your blog so that next time they want to watch a horror movie, they are more knowledgeable about each and every stuff around horror movies, specially on Netflix. Thank you for being so diligent about your research and posts on horror films.
