‘The Exorcist’ Reboot Eyes ‘Halloween’ Director David Gordon Green

The Exorcist

We announced that Blumhouse Productions and Morgan Creek were developing a reboot to The Exorcist a few months ago. Now it appears that they are moving forward with production and are currently in talks with director David Gordon Green (Halloween 2018) to direct, Observer exclusively revealed.

Jason Blum, David Robinson and James Robinson are all serving as producers for the film. Blumhouse along with Green were the driving forces behind the successful Halloween relaunch in 2018. Bringing the franchise back with original actors and a story that made sense to longtime fans proved to be the winning combination. Halloween, when on to grossed more $255 million worldwide, and was the second-highest opening for a horror movie that year. Now it appears that they are eyeing more projects to update.

The Exorcist came out in 1973, directed by William Friedkin, and starred Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow and Linda Blair. The story centered on a 12 year old girl (Blair) who becomes possessed by a demon. The movie is considered a classic and has long been loved by horror fans. But we haven’t seen a big screen film in The Exorcist universe since 2005 with Dominion a prequel film. We have no ideas of what the story will focus on in the new film as there hasn’t been any script details released at this time.

Green was a big reason for the success of the reboot of the Halloween franchise that led to two more sequels being ordered. Halloween Kills is due out next October (2021) with Halloween Ends the following year. He is also directing the first few episodes of the upcoming HBO continuation of Hellraiser.
