‘The Changeling’ Remake Lands ‘Taboo’ Director Anders Engström

The Changeling

The Finnish director of the FX series ‘Taboo’ has just been tapped to helm the remake of the ultimate haunted house film, The Changeling. The film is being produced by Joel B. Michaels’ (Terminator Salvation) and will be an update of the 1980 supernatural thriller The Changeling according to Deadline.

The 1980 film follows a musician, played by George C. Scott, who secludes himself in a historical mansion following the death of his daughter. He soon finds himself the subject of an angry spirt as he begins to unlock the long buried secrets of the building. This tale of ghosts and tragedy is filled with vengeful spirits and creepy backstory. The new script which is being written by Tab Murphy and he says that it will introduce “several new twists and turns.”

Joel B. Michaels, who was also producer on the original said in a statement that he is excited to revisit the story. “I am overjoyed at having the unique opportunity to reimagine an updated version of the iconic film The Changeling that I produced so many years ago. It’s flattering to know that it proved to have inspired a rash of filmmakers that paid homage to the original film. I am excited to be working with Anders Engström who will bring his own contemporary vision to the film.”
