‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ Is Getting the Reboot Treatment

Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios have officially acquired the remake rights to controversial 1984 slasher film Silent Night, Deadly Night according to sources at Deadline.

Silent Night, Deadly Night focuses on a child who is traumatized after seeing his parents killed by a man dressed as Santa Claus. After he becomes an adult, he begins to wear the Santa suit and takes out his revenge on his town. The original spawned four sequels and a loosely based remake in 2012.

However, none have caused the stir that the original did. The film angered 80s parents across the country. With its graphic violence and advertising campaign, all which featured a killer dressed as Santa, parents were not happy.

The National Parent & Teacher Association even fought to have the film removed from theaters and the film even drew protests. TriStar ended up pulling the ads and eventually the film shorty after its release.

Thanks to all the controversy surrounding the film, fans flocked to theaters. The film pulled in more than $2.4M after just 10 days in theaters. It even outgrossed Wes Craven’s A Nightmare On Elm Street, which opened on the same day.

Wonderwheel said in a statement: “The continued desire for horror content and the ongoing success of the genre meant it was the perfect time to be able to offer up this chilling revival of the iconic title.”
