[Trailer] ‘Seance’ Reveals a Ghostly Murder Mystery From ‘You’re Next’ Writer

Seance

The new horror film Seance has just dropped the trailer starring Suki Waterhouse as a new student at the prestigious Edelvine Academy for Girls. She and her fellow classmates participate in a seance in an attempt to contact a ghost that supposedly haunts the school.

The film was written and directed by Simon Barrett who wrote You’re Next, The Guest, and the 2016 sequel of Blair Witch. Seance was shot in Winnipeg and marks Barrett’s first time in the director’s chair. “Seance is a murder mystery set at a girls boarding school where a young woman recently died,” says Simon Barrett, who spoke with EW. “Our hero moves into her dorm room, which is believed to be haunted, and sets about trying to find out what happened.”

Suki Waterhouse (Assassination Nation) leads the cast as the movie’s protagonist, Camille Meadows. “She was the first person who signed on,” says Barrett. “I was looking at Suki originally to play Alice — the bully, the leader of the girls at the school. I thought of Camille as an underdog. Suki is a model, she has such a striking look, I was not certain how that would work. Then I sat down and talked with her for like three hours, and she had an interesting take on Camille and totally got the jokes in the film. She honestly was the only person who thought the script was funny. I texted the financiers right afterwards and was like, ‘We should cast her.'”

Check out the trailer below for Seance, starring Suki Waterhouse, Madisen Beaty, Ella-Rae Smith, Inanna Sarkis, Seamus Patterson, and Marina Stephenson-Kerr. The film will hit theaters and VOD on May 21, before streaming on Shudder later in the year. Be sure to follow ScaryNerd for more of all things horror.
