Universal Pictures has officially set the team for its Wolfman project. Deadline exclusively revealed that Universal is fast tracking the film to production.
Leigh Whannell is currently finishing up negotiations to direct, with Ryan Gosling in the lead role. Jason Blum of Blumhouse has will produce alongside Gosling. Earlier this year, Whannell and Blumhouse successfully brought The Invisible Man back to the big screen. Starring Elisabeth Moss, the film grossed a whopping $124 million worldwide. Which is likely why we will see Universal’s push for more Classic Movie Monsters in the future.

Whannell will be penning the film’s treatment based on his own original story. Which he says was inspired by the 1941 classic film starring Lon Chaney. After that Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (Netflix’s Orange is the New Black) will take over and write the script.
In 2017, Universal had announced plans for a Dark Universe, which would reboot their iconic characters like Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster and The Mummy. The latter of which was rebooted in 2017 and famously flopped pushing back plans for more monsters. But with the success of The Invisible Man and hopefully The Wolfman, the Dark Universe may continue to grow.
As we stated above the project is scheduled to be fast tracked so hopefully we will see Wolfman sometime in 2021. For now, be sure to follow ScaryNerd for more of all things horror.
