‘Resident Evil’ Reboot Begins Casting for Key Roles
Deadline has revealed that Constantin Films has began the process of bringing Resident Evil back to big screens. The reboot of the franchise is under the Constantin banner and will be helmed by writer-director Johannes Roberts. On Tuesday they announced they have created an official origin story adaptation that will faithfully tie in Capcom’s classic survival zombie games.
The new story is set in Raccoon City on the fateful night in 1998. Some of the central characters have already been cast, such as Crawl‘s Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (The Babysitter) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. “With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences” said director Johannes Roberts.
Paul W.S. Anderson wrote and directed the previous six films the Resident Evil franchise, which were led by Milla Jovovich’s Alice. The franchise made a combined $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office. Making it among the highest-grossing film series ever based on a video game. It is important to note that this reboot will not be connected to the new live action series at Netflix.
