Orion Pictures is Developing a Horror film based on the “Momo Challenge”
Momo is getting her own movie. That’s right the viral hoax that was inspired by a sculpture by Japanese artist Keisuke Aiso is getting it’s own film. Deadline exclusively revealed the news that Orion Pictures is partnering with Vertigo Entertainment, and producer Taka Ichise to develop a film based on the viral hoax called “Momo’s Challenge.”
In 2018, parents were warned that harmful messages were hidden in Youtube videos. The messages reportedly gave instructions for self harm. Youtube later dismissed the reports as a hoax, but the damage was already done. Momo had gripped the internet and became its own urban legend. The original Aiso sculpture was part of a gallery exhibit in Tokyo in 2016. It was a depiction of a venomous, child snatching bird rooted in Japanese folklore named Ubume.
