Last Saturday, Mark Hamill announced that he will be voicing the murderous doll in the upcoming Child’s Play remake. Brad Dourif has voiced Chucky since the original film and it’s six follow up sequels. Immediately after, horror fans quickly divided themselves at the news. But now, the director that brought the doll to life for the first time has weighed in. On Sunday, Tom Holland, whose other directing credits include Fright Night and Thinner, took to Twitter to give the casting choice his approval.
Mark Hamill has many voice acting credits under his belt including cartoons, video games, among others. Most notably, is his role as the Joker, the DC Comics villain he first portrayed in 1992, but has brought back in many different follow-up projects.
30 Years Later
Last year marked 30 years since the release of the 1988 classic, which effectively gave children a reason to be terrified of their toys. Now, we are getting a remake with a new look, updated technology and a new menacing voice. The new Child’s Play stars Aubrey Plaza as a mother who gives her son a doll for his birthday, unaware of its sinister defect. Producers for the film include Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, who also helmed It: Chapter One and the upcoming sequel.
Director for the upcoming remake is Norwegian filmmaker Lars Klevberg. Last year he spoke with EW about the project: “Child’s Play was, and is, one of my all-time horror movies and it was one of my introductions to horror. I got the script [for the remake] and it was really really good, and I knew it was from the producers from It, and I jumped in immediately.”
