‘Last Night in Soho’: Director Edgar Wright Teases New and “Intense” Film
Edgar Wright fans have been waiting for him to head back to the horror genre since the 2004 film Shaun of the Dead. Now the director has returned and is teasing us with a few details from his next film Last Night in Soho.
Recently, Wright sat down with Empire Magazine for their upcoming Big-Screen Preview issue to give some details about the new film. And while this isn’t his first experience with the horror genre, the director says Last Night in Soho is different than his other films.
“It will feel very different to my other films,” Wright told Empire. “But I’ve always liked films which have a slow burn into something else, and a lot of my movies have that feeling. Last Night starts in a more psychological realm and then starts to get increasingly intense as it goes along. And I always like to gravitate towards making a film in genres I miss, and there’s a certain type of psychological horror film that you got more in the ‘60s and ‘70s, that have something of an operatic nature. I’m using that kind of visual grammar.”
Said to be inspired by films such as Don’t Look Now and Rosemary’s Baby. This new thriller follows a young girl, with a passion for fashion design. After mysteriously entering 1960s London, she runs into her dapper idol. However 1960s London isn’t all that it seems, and what consequences will her time travel have? The films stars Anya Taylor-Joy (Emma), Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit), and Matt Smith (The Crown).
Last Night in Soho was due to hit theaters in late 2020 however, due to the Coronavirus it now has an April 2021 release date. Head over to Empire to check out a brand new image from the film. Be sure to follow ScaryNerd for more of all things horror!
