A24 has won the North American rights to Lamb the debut film from Valdimar Jóhannsson according to reports from Variety. The film will world premiere at the upcoming Cannes in the Un Certain Regard competitive sidebar. Stars Noomi Rapace (Prometheus), alongside Icelandic actors Hilmir Snaer Gu∂nason and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, A24 is currently planning on releasing the film in the US later this year.
“Lamb focuses on childless couple (Rapace and Gu∂nason) in rural Iceland who make an alarming discovery one day in their sheep barn. They soon face the consequences of defying the will of nature, in this dark and atmospheric folktale.”

Jan Naszewski’s sales agency New Europe Film Sales confirmed the A24 pickup on Monday. ”The movie is original, imaginative and has cult potential that the label can help us achieve,” Naszewsk said about the film. Which has already been sold to numerous European territories also before its Cannes debut.
