After the release of the second ‘Pet Sematary‘ trailer, fans were left wondering why a certain character’s storyline had changed. Reader beware: if you are waiting until the release of the film to find out what will happen with the story, stop reading now!
**You’ve been warned! Don’t go beyond! The barrier was not meant to be broken!!**
‘Pet Sematary‘ is the story of Louis Creed, his wife Rachel and their two children Gage and Ellie. After losing their beloved cat by a truck, Louis resorts to burying it in a mysterious nearby pet cemetery. However, the Creeds soon discover that things are not as they seem with the cemetery. And the family learns that sometimes, dead is better. Now that you’re all caught up, lets dive into that twist. The film will differ from the book and original adaptation, by swapping the storylines of the two Creed children. Gage Creed (Hugo and Lucas Lavoie) will escape the death-by-semi fate, and sister Ellie (Jeté Laurence) will take his place.
The King Has Spoken
The filmmakers have discussed that the changes were necessary for telling a scarier story. But now Jason Clarke, and apparently Stephen King, have also weighed in on the change. Clarke recent told Flickering Myth that the reward will come for fans. “People who are upset will hopefully see the benefit of it. But a lot of people didn’t have an issue. Stephen King didn’t have an issue with it.”
Furthermore, Clarke reaffirms the filmmakers decision to change the story, “It’s pretty easy to justify [the change]. You can’t play that movie with a three-year-old boy. You end up with a doll or some animated thing. So you’re going to get a much deeper, richer story by swapping for a seven-year-old or nine-year-old girl.”
Hopefully, fans of the book and 1989 film will find a place in their cold dead hearts for the new adaptation. Fans have long trusted Stephen King’s opinion on horror. Therefore this new direction should give us a new take on an old beloved horror story.
‘Pet Sematary’ comes to play in theaters April 5 and you can check the new trailer below.
