Jason Mendelsohn (Ready Player One) is set to star and produce along with Jason Bateman’s Aggregate Films. Bateman will also direct the first two episodes of the Stephen King adaptation. The story follows what seems to be a straightforward investigation into the murder of a young boy. However, the crime “leads a seasoned cop and an unorthodox investigator to question everything they believe to be real, as an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case” per HBO.
The series also will also feature regulars Cynthia Erivo as Holly Gilbey, Paddy Considine as Claude Bolton, Bill Camp as lawyer Howie Gold, Jeremy Bobb as Alec Pelley, Marc Menchaca as Jack Hoskins, Julianne Nicholson as Mercy Maitland, Yul Vazquez as Yunis Sablo and Mare Winningham as Jeannie Anderson with Hettienne Park as Tomika Collins and Michael Esper as Bill Samuels in recurring roles.
Fans of King’s may recognize the character of Holly Gilbey from the Bill Hodges trilogy of King books, who also appeared in the series Mr. Mercedes played by Justine Lupe.
As to who is set to play the role of Terry Maitland, accused murderer is still unknown as this time. Currently there is no release date for The Outsider but hopefully we’ll see it sometime next year on HBO. But either way the Stephen King Renaissance continues!
