Halloween 2 to Begin Production this Fall with Jamie Lee Curtis Returning

Halloween 2018

The Halloween franchise has spanned multiple sequels since the original 1978 film starring Jamie Lee Curtis. After the successful reboot last year, fans were hopeful that we would see a Halloween 2. With a total gross of $255 million world wide, it seemed that we were certain to see a sequel. Jason Blum had even began teasing fans earlier this month. Tweeting a photo of him and Jamie Lee Curtis “discussing stuff.”

According to Collider, a sequel will begin shooting this fall with an October 16, 2020 release date. Filling a previously untitled Blumhouse film that was slated for that date. The site also notes that Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak are all expected to return. The script is being written by David Gordon Green, who will also direct.

“There are now other people’s stories that would need to get told”

However, this information has yet to be confirmed by Blumhouse or Universal. But there have been many teases for another installment in the franchise. Last year when asked about a sequel Curtis admitted to Entertainment Weekly that she’d be happy to another film. “This was an extraordinary experience. David was a fantastic director, writer, but obviously this 2018, 40th anniversary, was Laurie’s story, and obviously there are now other people’s stories that would need to get told. But Laurie’s story was told beautifully this year, and I would have no way of knowing how they would incorporate her into future.”

The 2018 version was more of a direct sequel to the first film in 1978. By effectively erasing all of the other sequels, they were able to reinvent the story in a fresh way. Now we will have to see what else lies ahead for Laurie, her daughter and granddaughter. While it seemed that the Strodes had finally defeated the slasher psychopath, the film ended on an ominous note. Fans were left with breathing sounds suggesting that Michael survived. While there has yet to be an official synopsis, we are sure that the filmmakers will deliver, as they did in 2018.
