Fede Álvarez Reveals Alternative Ending For 9th Anniversary Of ‘Evil Dead’
We can’t believe it’s been nearly a decade since Fede Álvarez unleashed his version of the Deadites. Yesterday, on the ninth anniversary of the filmmaker’s Evil Dead remake, he gave fans a few glimpses behind the scenes. His 2013 film starred Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci and Elizabeth Blackmore.
The director took to Twitter and revealed that the final version of the film’s ending was different than what was originally planned. In a never-before-seen clip fans get to see an alternate ending to the remake. Which sees Mia (Levy) being taken by “the force”, an homage to Sam Raimi‘s original horror classic.

It seems Raimi steered Álvarez from killing Mia in the final scene. Which is probably a good thing, as Levy‘s Mia landed final girl status by surviving the film. Fans were hopeful that we would see her return in the way Bruce Campbell‘s Ash did in the franchise. But unfortunately that was not meant to be.
Going further, Fede Álvarez also added a page of the script which reveals fans would have seen even more blood at the end. It rains blood before the final scenes in the 2013 film, but that wasn’t enough for Álvarez. Not only would Mia have fallen victim to the Deadite “force” but she would have fully exploded (imploded?) revealing the book below her.
2013’s Evil Dead revitalized the industry’s thoughts on remakes, and gave the horror genre a gore filled film with atmosphere making more than $97 million worldwide. The film was followed by the Starz series Ash vs Evil Dead, starring Campbell, which ran for three seasons. Up next for the franchise is Evil Dead Rise directed by Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground). The film is rated R and is said to debut sometime this year on HBO Max.
