Clive Barker has officially signed on to the upcoming HBO series, Hellraiser, according to sources for Deadline. The Hellraiser series is being written by Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) and Michael Dougherty (Trick r’ Treat) with Halloween (2018) director David Gordon Green on board to direct the initial episodes.
Barker says that he is “delighted the Hellraiser mythology is seeing a new life. It’s time the stories went back to their roots. I’m eager to bring to a new audience the most powerful and ancient elements of horror: the darkest evil invading our human lives and how we must find in ourselves the power to resist it.”
Clive Barker brought the Hellraiser horror franchise to life, based on his novel The Hellbound Heart. The series is said to be an elevated continuation of the existing Hellraiser mythology. Hellraiser kicked off the franchise and introduced horror fans to the now beloved cenobites. Recently Barker’s other novel, Books of Blood, was brought to the small screen by the streamer Hulu.
