‘Christine’: Bryan Fuller To Revive Stephen King’s Story For Sony and Blumhouse

Sony Pictures and Blumhouse announced today that they bringing back the ultimate killer car, Christine. A new adaptation of the Stephen King novel will be directed by Bryan Fuller (Hannibal series) sources for Deadline confirmed. The first film was directed by John Carpenter in 1983 and starred Keith Gordon, John Stockwell and Alexandra Paul.

Carpenter’s film followed Arnie (Gordon) a smart and shy type, who stumbles into the clutches of a murderous car. After realizing there is more to his ’58 Plymouth than meets the eye, Arnie becomes obsessed. His friends realize that the car has a mind of its own and they must save their friend before he falls victim, like its previous owners.

Fuller has previously written and produced Star Trek: Discovery, American Gods, Hannibal, Heroes and others. Fuller has also stated that he plans to keep they film set within the 80s to remain true to King’s novel. This is just another in the long list of King projects to be revamped for a new age.

Many of Stephen King’s other stories are currently in production or just released, including Apple TV+ limited series Lisey’s Story which King himself adapted from his novel. Firestarter is also another reboot currently in the works and expected to shoot sometime this year.
