[Interview] ‘At Night Comes Wolves’ Director TJ Marine Talks His Feature Debut and Offers Tips for New Filmmakers
TJ Marine’s feature debut, At Night Comes Wolves, has just hit VOD streaming platforms everywhere. This horror/thriller centers on a woman who leaves her objectifying husband and joins ex-cult members. The film was written and directed by TJ Marine, and stars Gabi Alves, Colleen Elizabeth Miller, Madeleine Heil, Vladimir Noel and Myles Forster. We recently chatted with TJ about his film and what he can pass onto budding filmmakers.
The following is a transcript of an interview, some of the questions have been edited for brevity and clarity.
SNPaul: So, how did this story come about?
TJ: Well, I was casting for my third short film and I had this idea that I could combine them into a single cohesive story. And If I added a little more to the three short films I could connect the moments together without any huge plot holes into a seamless narrative story.
SNPaul: Any plans for a At Night Comes Wolves sequel?
TJ: I’ve toyed with the idea of other stories in the universe of this film. But if I was to do a direct sequel I think I’d like to do something about the apocalypse, like Shaun of The Dead. The actor that played Walter is actually a very funny guy and I think he’d be great in a horror comedy.
SNPaul: This being your first feature film, do you have any advice for future filmmakers?
TJ: This (At Night Comes Wolves) was a credit card film, so very little budget, but the biggest thing I can say it to find good people to help you. People who can handle logistics during the shoot. I tried to do too much and I was trying to work with the actors, while I was getting calls from the caterer because they couldn’t find the location. So, get people to help lighten the load.

SNPaul: Did you work on many film sets before your feature?
TJ: Well in film school I helped on a lot of short films and a few friends and I snuck onto the Captain America 2 set. (Laughing)
SNPaul: So what was the biggest lesson learned from your first feature film?
TJ: I want more! (Laughing) I still feel pretty hungry. But, you just got to do it, if you really want to make movies, you should make movies. You can keep your dreams of making big budget films while working on independent films. If it’s your dream stay with it, you’ll figure it out and be comfortable with risk.
SNPaul: So, what’s next for you?
TJ: I have a script ready and will be looking to see what comes next. I’d like to do a movie that is like Raid and Reservoir Dogs mixed together. A character driven action film.
SNPaul: Sounds great, we look forward to hearing more from you
