‘Alien’: Fede Álvarez Tapped To Write & Direct New Film; Ridley Scott to Produce

Alien

Aliens 1986

More facehuggers, chest poppers and Xenomorphs are on the way! Fede Álvarez will write and direct an original Alien film. The Don’t Breathe filmmaker won’t be remaking franchise, but instead will be tackling a stand-alone feature for 20th Century Studios according to sources for THR.

Ridley Scott, who directed the original 1979 sci-fi horror, and two recent installments(Prometheus, Alien: Covenant), will produce via his Scott Free banner. “The project is intended to be made for Hulu as part of 20th Century’s ambitions to make more than 10 movies a year for the Disney-operated streaming service.”

The first Alien was written by Dan O’Bannon, and followed the doomed crew of the cargo spaceship Nostromo. Ripley, played by actress Sigourney Weaver, was the only survivor and went on to lead three sequels in the franchise, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien: Resurrection.

According to sources for THR, “Álvarez is a rabid fan of the franchise and casually pitched a take to Scott many years ago. The idea remained implanted in Scott’s brain until late last year, when he called Álvarez out of the blue and asked him if he was still up for it. Álvarez didn’t have to be asked twice.”

Details for Álvarez‘s new addition to the franchise are being kept under wraps but sources say it is unconnected to the previous movies. 20th Century picked up the project “purely off the strength of Fede’s pitch,” said division president Steve Asbell. “It was just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before.”

The new Alien film from Fede Álvarez will be released via Hulu, but there is currently no release date. Be sure to stay tuned to ScaryNerd and we will keep you updated as this story develops.
